I think this year's awards should be pretty straight forward. LLoyd for player and Ellis for coach. It's a bit too narrow a view for me but it always pans out like that when a major tournament has been in the calendar.

The player award is gradually starting to be a better reflection of the game. It has in the past been utter nonsense. It just needs to start recognising English/British players now and then we will be almost there.

The coach award continues to be awful though. It's like they can't actually make up the ten-name shortlist so just throw any old manager on there.

The elite women's game is not quite big enough to warrant a ten-name shortlist, they should reduce it down to five. I don't know why Harvey made the list but was glad to see Sampson on it.

Quite an honor for Sampson, my bet is on Ellis but I'm glad to see him in the final three. I'm very interested how he does next year, if the British managers in the elite men's game is anything to go by (Rodgers, Monk, Sherwood), he'll underperform but just won't get sacked.

There isn't really anything for him to perform at next year. No Olympics (would he have even been in charge if we did go to to Rio?) means the only thing for him to worry about is Euros qualifying and whatever friendlies we line up. 2017 is his next real test.

As for the FIFA award... he shouldn't win it over a coach who actually won the World Cup. And since that tournament has clearly dictated the nominees for both awards this time around, the most fitting thing to do with the coach award would be if it went in finishing order: Ellis 1st, Sasaki 2nd, Sampson 3rd.
